Townsite Heritage Planning

City of Powell River is looking at ways to protect heritage property in Townsite. Townsite was recognized in 1995 as a National Historic Site of Canada, because the community today is a well-preserved example of a single-industry planned community. The 1995 National Historic Site recognition demonstrates significance for our province and Canada overall. However, this recognition is just that – recognition – and it does not come with protections for the neighbourhood as a whole or the buildings within it. So, City staff are continuing work started twenty years ago to bring more protections to homes in Townsite.

Please, join City of Powell River to review the Development Permit Area Guidelines for Townsite’s residential areas. Drop-in between 4pm and 6pm on February 26, 2019 at the new Townsite Mall (upstairs). We want to hear your ideas and questions before putting the finishing touches on the Development Permit Area Guidelines for Council’s consideration.
